Intex Explorer K2 Kayak Review
If you’re on a budget and need an affordable fishing kayak, then I want you to know that you can’t do any better than the Intex Explorer K2 Kayak.
This is one of the cheapest fishing kayaks on the market right now. And, it’s actually a high quality kayak. Honestly, until I tested it out, I was finding it hard to believe it since it’s priced lower than I would expect for this type of quality! For a good, cheap 2-person inflatable fishing kayak, this tandem model is probably the best value for the money right now. It performs well in the water and can handle flat waters and mild moving waters.
Intex Explorer K2 Kayak Features
Being affordable isn’t all that this kayak has to offer anglers like you and me. It has room for up to two people at once. And, it comes as a package deal with a high output air pump and aluminum oars.
Here are some of the other top features worth mentioning:
- Low-profile for lakes and mild rivers
- Sporty graphics for high visibility
- Adjustable inflatable seat with backrest
- Removable skeg for directional stability
- US Coast Guard I.D
- 30 gauge rugged vinyl and a sturdy I-beam floor
- inflates and deflates in 10 minutes or less!
- 350-lb weight capacity
You really do get a lot for your money with this model. Here’s what all it comes with: removable skeg, two aluminum paddles, two adjustable seats with backs, repair kit, dual action air pump and carry bag.
Are the seats removable for solo fishing?
Yes, the seats attach to the floor by velcro strips. The rear strips are longer than the front strips, so the back seat could be positioned further forwards (to the middle) or back, depending on seating arrangement.
How is the tracking?
It’s actually quite good if the skeg is in.
Will my dog’s claws puncture it with a towel down?
I wouldn’t chance it as this one isn’t made to withstand doggie claws.
Can I take it to the beach to use out in the waves of the ocean?
Yes, it does fine with small waves. But it is hard to paddle along the beach since the waves push you in a direction that makes it easier to paddle further in or straight back instead of paddling along the beach, It definitely doesn’t feel like it is going to flip or anything though.
Is this kayak self bailing?
No, but it really doesn’t get much water in it.
What are the dimensions of the kayak/gear when inside the storage bag?
Approx 4 feet long and 2 feet wide and about 2.5 or 3 feet tall.
Is this stable enough to use with a young child?
Yes, in calm water. Very stable. I have taken a 5 year old down the river. No worries. But they are not much assistance with paddling!
Will this kayak accommodate a tall person who is 6’4″?
Yes, the seats are actually velcro-ed in so you can adjust leg length, etc.
I don’t see any netting – Is there any room for storage ie: towel, tackle box?
No net storage but PLENTY of storage room in front or behind back seat – had 2 people, tackle box, 2 poles, a wet bag in there with no problem.
Can this kayak be used in whitewater?
Yes, but not ideal for it.
Bottom line: this kayak inflates quickly, is made of durable heavy vinyl, is easy to deflate and has an affordable price. It’s made to last and fun to take out on the water.
